Snake River Sturgeon Fishing -
When sturgeon fishing we have found it best
to limit the number of
rods to 3 at any one time to avoid the possibility of tangled
lines
and the loss of fish. These Snake River Sturgeon are very
strong and can make
long and fast runs when hooked. The battle
can last for an hour or more depending on the size of the
sturgeon. We use top quality 7 to 10 foot rods and Reels
with braided Tuff Line and Dacron leaders with barb-less
hooks. The sturgeon fishing takes place in the deeper water on the
river. We will find where the sturgeon are holding and drop or
cast a large bait in their location and then position the boat on
the bank or anchor in the area and wait for the bite. For the
most part the bite is soft and almost unnoticeable but the hook set
is hard and fast. In our area, the Snake River Sturgeon fishing
is Catch & Release only.
Snake River Smallmouth Bass -
Yep! We have them, some nice smallmouth bass can be
hooked in the Snake River. How we fish for smallmouth bass is
based on the water conditions and the time of year. We use top quality
6 to 7 foot spinning rods and reels and set them up with 10lb test
line. The lures we use range from top water and swim baits to soft
plastics grubs or tubes depending on the time of year and where
the bass are holding. This area has truly great river smallmouth
bass fishing, we will be traveling from spot to spot fishing fast
water rocky points to rock cliffs with deep drop offs.
Snake
River Steelhead fishing - The Snake River offers some of the
best action in fresh water fishing that can be found. Depending on
the water levels and the temperature we use many difference methods
to catch the steelhead. Our Favorite steelhead tactics are backtrolling
plugs, side-drifting row or shrimp, and back bouncing jigs. The equipment
we use for example when side-drifting row or shrimp would be a 9 ½
foot custom made rod with a spinning reel loaded with 6lb to
10lb test line. When backtrolling we would use an 8 ½ foot rod
and a trolling reel loaded with 20lb test tuff-line.
Snake River Salmon
Fishing - You will finds us in the lower part of the river most of
the time backtrolling plugs, or side-drifting row or shrimp. The gear
used when side-drifting row or shrimp would be a 9 ½ foot custom
made rod with a spinning reel loaded with 10lb to 15lb test line.
When backtrolling we would use an 8 ½ foot rod and a level wind
reel loaded with 30lb test tuff-line. We have found that it’s hard
to beat backtrolling a sardine wraped plug in the fast water for the
Salmon in this area of the Snake River.
